As 2020 comes to an end, we just want to take a moment to step back and reflect upon this year of fundraising.

This year gave the world more obstacles than a Kaizo Mario level. This could have spelled disaster for Extra Life Edmonton. We rely on our presence at events like Edmonton Expo, Fragapalooza, and Animethon to reach new gamers and fundraisers, collect donations, and generate awareness about Game Day. Being able to hold our biggest event of the year in a public venue, in-person with all of our amazing participants is one of the things we look forward to most, and the idea of not being able to do that this year was devastating. We had no idea what to expect when we shifted our entire Game Day online, and frankly, we were terrified that we wouldn’t be able to raise money for kids who need it now more than ever.

Wow, did we underestimate you all!

This year, you incredible gamers raised over $260,000 CAD for sick kids! You also came out in droves, with 707 fundraisers committing to being a force of charity, positivity, and good will in the world, when so many other forces tried to bog everyone down. You have made a powerful difference in the lives of sick kids and their families, and there aren’t enough Fall Guy crowns in the world for us to thank you for that.

Truly, from the bottom of our 8-bit hearts, thank you for all you have done and continue to do. Each of you is a beacon of light in the world, and we cherish you.
